A few weeks ago I was listening to Tara Gentile when one of those moments came. You know one of those Aha moments. You know one of those moments Oprah always talks about but never gives the Holy Spirit credit for. One of those moments. Tara was talking about how you can implement the Living Room Strategy. Well Tara’s talk made me think of one of my most favorite Bible Characters … Lydia. You know Lydia. Lydia was one of the first converts in the New Testament. The Bible’s statement is somewhat simple in regards to Lydia. Our initial introduction of Lydia in the Book of Acts says Lydia sold dye and she worshiped the Lord.
Oh how I wish I could make the period at the end of the previous sentence bigger.
Lydia was one who listened, sold dye and worshiped God.
A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul. Acts 16:14 (HCSB)
What a short little Bio, that is.
The very next time we hear about Lydia the person, is when Paul and Silas are dramatically released from prison. Can’t you just see them all gathered around a fire, telling the many stories of Jesus in the middle of Lydia’s living room.
After leaving the jail, they came to Lydia’s house where they saw and encouraged the brothers, and departed. Acts 16:40 (HCSB)
When we first meet Lydia, she is listening in a crowd. We know this because the text says … One who heard us. The listening one is the power in the crowd, because before we know it Lydia’s house is a place of encouragement for many.
Might we encourage you today to Lead from the heart of your Living Room. It’s an awesome place to start.
