Missional Motherhood

71964-share-square-2-1024x1024[1]The headline reads: Oakland’s Elijah Dobbins commits to MTSU, it’s late at night and I’ve already googled my son’s name for this day. I’m a fifty-three year old black woman with a seventeen year old son and I am on a mission. Some days I feel like the Bionic woman, while other days I feel more like a bird kicking her young out of the nest. I’m a fifty-three year old black woman with a seventeen year old son and I am on a mission. I’m on a mission to continue to Mother this boy not yet a man. This boy puffed up by coaches, recruiters and the press. This boy loved and supported by coaches, recruiters and the press. I am a Mother on a mission. A mission to always be tuned in to the voice of God concerning this boy.

Directed by the Lord I named him Elijah. Directed by the Lord I named him Elijah, so that I might never forget where this blessing of a boy came from. In my rebellion, I prayed and begged for one child but He gave me too. I prayed for a boy and He gave me a girl. And once I accepted my fate as a single Mother of two, I prayed for a girl and He gave me a boy.

Dear God, my God, I just realized the crazy thing you have done! You used the very thing you directed me to walked away from to care for my young to announce a blessing for many from the one. Lord, Thank you for all those who worked with me eight years ago … at the DNJ back in the day! Lillian was twelve and Elijah was nine the night the scanner screamed our address while I was manning the press. God, you are Good, God you are faithful and God you are kind. Thank You!

I am super excited about Life Way and their OBS and know I have decided to join the Missional Motherhood Study which launches this fall!
