When the church spins-off like CSI (Crime Scene Investigation)

We are in transition. We are in the process of moving to Franklin, Tennessee (the land of my Father). When I talked to our pastor about this move, he kindly shared his Spin Off perspective/theory with me. After our informal conversation his theory presented itself in real life as me and my friend Anne were watching an episode of Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. There it was, right there on television, a spin-off staring Forest Whitaker. All of a sudden, me and Anne started laughing out loud and talking in spin-off like fashion. Had our adult like posture not been heavily present we could have been spinning around in the middle of her living room.

But, then after church last night I found myself watching an episode of CSI: Cyber (Crime Scene Investigation). At first I didn’t know what I was watching but something about the show felt familiar. That’s when I realized it was just another spin-off of CSI. The CSI franchise now has multiplied itself four times, with each spin-off catering to a different market.

Anthony E. Zuiker, the creator of CSI is quoted as saying after the September 11 attacks “People were rushing to us for their comfort food.” Comfort food is familiar and when one is in crisis mode comfort food is a needed necessity of nourishment of the spiritual kind. And, is this not exactly what the church wants … “People rushing to the church for the comfort food that will forever sustain them … the Bread of Life.” Each CSI spin-off caters to a different market and each spin-off has its own theme song and supervisor.

Pastor Joe later related this Spin-off Phenomenon to the spread of the gospel in the Book of Acts.

The Gospel is Preached From Jerusalem to All Judea – Chapters 1-7
The Gospel is Preached in Samaria – Chapter 8
The Gospel is Preached to the Gentiles – Chapters 9-12
The Gospel is Preached to the Ends of the Earth – Chapters 13-28

Mary Fairchild writes … “This is how the church is established and continues to grow, spreading locally and then continuing to the ends of the earth.”

CSI is not the church, nor does it in any way represent the church or it’s likeness, but it sure does give us a modern day snap shot of multiplication and transformation.

We are in transition. We are in the process of moving to Franklin, Tennessee (the land of my Father).

We learned and loved much while active, dedicated members of SEBC but we have little desire to continue to confuse attachments with assignments. The will and purpose, for this our one life is clearly pointed out in the Bible but know we all have the very same assignment. Yes, there are multiple ways for us to conduct this our one assignment but we all have the same assignment of The Great Commission. Thus, the reason for it to be titled as Great.

We are in transition. We are in the process of moving to Franklin, Tennessee (the land of my Father). We are Spinning-Off with all the love, knowledge, grace and mercy we have received. We extremely thankful, it ain’t a show but like a crossover episode of CSI We are Spinning off.

When the church spins-off like CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) one church becomes four and lives are transformed.
